Responsible Exercise of Cognitive Power

One of the concerns of this website is what it means, in a democracy, to exercise responsibly the cognitive powers that each of us shares as human beings, powers such as playing with one another, imagining, thinking, explaining to ourselves and one another, asking questions of one another, talking with and listening to one another, raising families, working together, experimenting, exploring, learning, struggling.

Some of these powers we exercise from the minute we are born, others we develop. We continue to exercise them as long as we live, to a greater or lesser extent, more or less responsibly, every minute of every day.
